Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.
-Matthew 6:33-34 (MSG)

If you’re anything like me, you spend too much of your time feeling sorry for yourself. You don’t do it on purpose, you just find yourself having regrets and looking back.

Today, I was looking at old photos and remembering what a seemingly dark time I was in. I was so focused on what I was missing out on that I didn’t realize what I was missing out on. I took my family, my time, and God for granted for so long. I was so discontent with my life that it was hard for me to soak in how blessed I was. I knew how blessed I was at the time, but I didn’t feel it, and it would fill me with such guilt that it was like pouring gasoline on a fire.

That was a year ago, and I’m still a work in progress. I still struggle with self-condemnation and guilt, but the difference between then and now is that I’m consciously working towards having joy throughout everything. We will only be on this earth for a short time; we can’t afford to spend our time looking behind us like Lot’s wife, nor can we spend our time looking ahead and waiting for our lives to change. God put us here, right now, today, because the world needs to see Him today.

It’s important to reflect on ourselves and ask God to reveal what we’re holding on to - because most of the time, we don’t even know how deep some roots go! And don’t forget to repent before the Lord and the people that need to forgive you as well. Remember, God isn’t holding your sins over your head, He forgives as soon as you allow Him to.

You still have time, you still have purpose, and you are still in God’s eyes and plans! Don’t let the past or future get in the way of what you can do today.
